Ski & Snowboarding Intramurals

For over 30 years, students and faculty have taken part in the Ski & Boarding Club offered at JTL through Shawnee Mountain. They continue to be our partner in winter fun. Members receive a multi-visit package that grants them access to the mountain over five weeks, starting in early January. This activity will give students exercise at an affordable price as well as promote the sports of skiing and snowboarding. Shawnee Mountain staff are excellent at providing an educational experience for people who are just starting to learn, and they offer outstanding conditions for those who are already advanced skiers and boarders. They have a variety of trails, good conditions, as well as the state-of-the-art equipment that they use to make snow. The package Shawnee offers is lower in cost than any other mountain in the area and they provide excellent rental equipment for those who don't own equipment. And if you are looking to ski more than just on club nights, there are special passes available for those who prefer to ride multiple nights throughout the season.

Our relationship with Shawnee Mountain has been exceptional over the years we've worked with them to get JTL students on the slopes. Transportation is free as the school’s transportation department will pick up our group after school and take the whole group to Shawnee. Family members can also purchase group passes through our school's program. You can ski and board with your child, as we have programs available with exceptional prices.

Each day you ride, you should have the following essentials...

• The pass that was given to you to get on the mountain
• Gloves or mittens that cover your entire hand
• Snow pants
• Warm insulated jacket
• Long socks
• A bag to carry your school stuff and clothing
• Credit Card for food/snacks
• Credit card if you are going to use a locker. Use a locker and keep your things locked up. (ADVISORS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR EQUIPMENT!)

7:10 AM-7:25 AM – If you are dropped off with your ski equipment, you will bring it from your parents' car into the school auditorium, where it will be placed in the upper right corner of the auditorium. Place large bags in the homeroom teachers' rooms or Mr. Toth's room (225) to pick up at the end of the school day.

2:20 PM – You will be dismissed with your regular team. Get your ski club apparel, ski pass,  and anything needed from your locker, such as homework, and go to the upper auditorium.

2:40 PM – Attendance will be taken by group leaders. Passes will be distributed during the first week. Food vouchers will be distributed each week. 

2:50 PM – Change clothing after your grade level has had attendance taken.

3:00 PM – Gather all your belongings and walk to the bus. Students with ski or snowboard equipment will get it from the locked closet and place it in an advisor's vehicle for transport to the mountain.

3:30 PM - Bus drop-off at Shawnee.  Head into the lodge to drop off bags. Head for rental shops, then lessons, or the mountain to ride.

7:45 PM - 8:00 PM - Arrange a meeting spot with your parents. The advisor's table is the best place to meet at 8 PM or before. Parents must sign out their students no later than 8 PM by the fireplace unless a student provides a note to stay later than 8 PM. You must return your rental equipment at 7:45 PM unless you're staying.

Advisors will leave Shawnee Mountain at 8 PM.
